This was my Clarity of Night contest Entry for the Contest "Uncovered". The piece had to be 250 words or less and could be about any topic or theme just use the picture.

Beguile and Betrayal

Drops of fire rained from the heavens on the fourth day of Earth’s creation. They dropped so fast that the fire turned to stone.

The stones were found after Adam’s eviction from the Garden. He ground the hard burnt surfaces to reveal that each stone was of a magnificent color and clarity, seen only in the garden.
Adam felt compelled to give them as a gift to Eve. Eve graciously accepted them.

Satan knowing that he had beguiled not the Daughter of God and was made to look a fool in front of Him was angered and his heart set on revenge.

The stones, he knew, had been sent from God to help guide his children home. To be used by the prophets themselves for direction, guidance, and translations of ancient texts in later years.

Using his arrangement with Cain, Satan began to fill the Mother’s mind with corruption.

“Mother, those stones father gave to you, have you looked through them to see how what appears? It must be the intention of God for us to behold the beauty of the world through his eyes.”

The serpent’s words were taken to heart when she did as Cain suggested. The stones took on a life and voice of their own, whispering words to Eve of endless power.

“Centuries we will survive,
Above and below the tide,
Power abounds
And when used to scry,
Together we’ll make you divine.”

And so the first witch was born.
